Who was Hideyo Blackmoon

Hideyo Blackmoon was a DJ, producer, composer, and vocalist who firmly believed in the healing power of music. Her journey intertwined deeply with music, starting from a young age when she learned the keyboard and performed as a vocalist in bands. During the late 1980s in Tokyo, Hideyo immersed herself in the thriving dance music scene, experiencing the transformative magic of music. This profound experience inspired her lifelong dedication to the music.

Hideyo made a unique mark on Tokyo's underground music scene. In the late 1990s, she was instrumental in developing the city's ambient and chill-out culture, transforming an abandoned underground bar into a renowned ambient club. She also played a key role in the early days of Ageha Tokyo, which was Asia’s largest nightclub before it closed. She served as a resident DJ and booking manager for its downtempo and chill-out area, further cementing her influence on the Tokyo music landscape.

Her nomadic lifestyle and international performances set her apart, establishing her as a fixture on the global festival circuit. She performed at renowned festivals across the USA, Africa, South America, Australia, Europe, Israel, Asia, and more, with notable appearances at Burning Man, Boom Festival, and the Total Solar Eclipse Festivals. Beyond festivals, Hideyo expanded her work to include yoga events, fashion events, and nightclubs, releasing several albums that reflected her diverse influences.

In 2008, Hideyo pioneered "Dance Meditation" events in Japan, promoting well-being through dance, a precursor to the global "Ecstatic Dance" movement. In 2011, she settled in Ibiza, continuing her work with chill out and downtempo music and collaborating with other musicians.

During the pandemic, she paused her artistic career, and in 2023, after releasing her third solo album, she transitioned into her new identity, RaLuna. This marked the end of her role as Hideyo Blackmoon while continuing her commitment to the therapeutic power of sound.
